Merida Bikes: a brief history
Merida is a Taiwanese bicycle manufacturer that was founded in 1972. Its purpose was to prove that Taiwanese-built bikes were better quality than their reputation implied at the time. This is exactly what Merida achieved, starting out by manufacturing bikes for other brands until it was time to launch its own, and it is now the second-largest bike manufacturer in Taiwan.
In 2017 Merida co-founded the Bahrain-Merida Pro Cycling Team, one of the first to be based in the Middle East. It now lives up to its ultimate ambition, with its bikes being ridden to victory by the likes of Vincenzo Nibali, Yukiya Arashiro and Sonny Colbrelli.

For mountain bikers there’s a wealth of hardtail and full-suspension models to choose from.
On the hardtail side, the Matts is an affordable entry-level option, while the Big.Seven and Big.Nine offer a lot more choice, with 27.5in and 29in wheels, respectively. Want something a bit more lary? Try the Big Trail range.
In the full-sus line-up, there’s the Ninety-Six XT which is built with the XC rider in mind.
