Lazer’s Genesis pro-level helmet is one of the lightest around at just 210g (M), and it also has a tremendously airy feel with 22 vents that are designed to “pull air into the helmet and across your head”.
The Genesis’s inner cradle offers five levels of vertical adjustment covering about 2cm and is tightened using Lazer’s Advanced Rollsys System, a knurled wheel on the top of the lid towards the rear, which is very effective and easy to use on the fly.
And while the anti-microbial Race padding may be thinner than on other helmets, such as Endura’s Pro SL, the Genesis is still very comfortable; and a second, thicker Comfort padding is included if you prefer.
The Genesis’s build quality is excellent. It features a standard construction, with an expanded polystyrene inner under a hard plastic outer shell. But there’s no shell covering the lower exposed edges, keeping weight down but exposing it to knocks.
Ventilation is great and those 22 vents really do make the Lazer one of the most aerated helmets I’ve ever tested.
The Genesis is compatible with Lazer’s £19.99 clip-on Aeroshell, which will turn it into a much more aerodynamic helmet – though with very reduced venting. The Genesis is also ponytail-friendly at the rear.
