Keith Bontrager started off as a frame builder who built some of the most coveted mountain bikes of the 1980s and 90s. Bontrager is a tinkerer, always striving to create better components. His adage "strong, light, cheap – pick two!" drove his design philosophy and drew the attention of Trek, who purchased Bontrager's company in 1995.
