Vitus bikes: latest reviews, news and buying advice

Vitus bikes is a direct-to-consumer brand sold exclusively at Chain Reaction Cycles and Wiggle, meaning Vitus can offer the best value possible. The company has pioneered new developments in bike building since the seventies and it offers a huge range of bikes for all disciplines.

Starting out as a frame builder in France in the 1970s, Vitus pioneered the design and manufacture of lugged and bonded aluminium frames, and was one of the first companies to take carbon fibre technology from the aerospace industry and incorporate it into bike building.

Its iconic 979 frame is still prized among collectors today, and many Vitus bikes have scored highly in our reviews.

Vitus 2019 road bikes

If you’re just getting started with road cycling, the Razor is Vitus’ entry level bike, and has an aluminium frame and carbon fork. It’s built for comfort and comes only with rim-brakes.

Vitus Razor Claris

A little more money will get you the Zenium, designed for endurance riding, sportives, winter training or long commutes. Its hydroformed tubing makes it more compliant, and it comes with disc brakes for superior stopping power.

The Venon is Vitus’ carbon endurance bike and is complete with disc brakes and designed for long and comfortable rides that include big climbs and a fast pace.

If you’re racing, consider the Vitesse Evo, the lightest bike in the range. It’s an all-round race machine with a super-stiff UCI-certified frame, and comes with an option for rim- or disc-brakes. Or, if you’re looking for the ultimate aero bike for maximum speed and efficiency, check out the ZX1.

If you’re more about mud than tarmac, the Vitus Energie is designed for CX racing. It has plenty of mud clearance, disc brakes, a 1x drivetrain for simplicity and a choice of aluminium or carbon frame.

For the adventure-seekers, there’s the Substance, which comes in two options. The V1 has a steel frame and fork, along with 700cx38 tyres, making it an excellent option for touring. The V2 on the other hand has a carbon fork, reducing its weight significantly, and rides on a super-plush combo of 650b wheels and massive 47c tyres.

Vitus Nucleus 27 VRX

For mountain bikers, there’s just as much choice. At the hardtail end of the spectrum, the Nucleus offers brilliant value and comes with confidence-inspiring geometry, 120mm travel and hydraulic disc brakes. There’s also the option to have 27.5in or 29in wheels.

The Sentier is an award-winning aluminium hardtail that is tubeless-ready, nimble and aggressive. It has 130mm travel and also has the option for 27.5in or 29in wheels.

Carbon enters the game when you look at the Rapide, though there are alloy models available too. It’s a hardtail XC race machine with 100mm travel.

Moving into the full-sus market, the Escarpe is a long, slack and aggressive trail bike, with 150mm travel on the front and 140mm on the rear. This also comes with the two wheel size option.

If enduro or downhill is more your thing, the Sommet has you covered with a massive 170mm travel on the front and 160mm on the rear. It comes with 27.5in wheels and plus-size tyres, a carbon fibre frame and aggressive geometry.

If you’re looking for a bit more power, Vitus also has electric versions of both the Sommet and Sentier, so check those out if that’s more your thing.

For commuters, Vitus offers great value for money with its entry-level commuter bike coming in just under £300. The Vee is a smooth-rolling cruiser commuter with massive 29in wheels so you can roll over anything.

A level up from this is the Dee, an alloy city bike that has disc brakes for stopping power in all weathers, a low-maintenance internal hub gear and the option for 29er wheels.

Finally, there’s the Mach, which is a fast and reliable hybrid bike with an aluminium frame that’s built for comfort. It includes all the mounts you’d need for mudguards and a rack, and comes with disc brakes, making it a versatile commuter option.
